Party is the cat's meow
Emma Kowalchuck (in a
tiger suit, no hat) and 28 other children have a roaring good time at
her tiger-themed sixth birthday party. The Long Island, N.Y., girl asked
her guests to donate money for tiger conservation in lieu of gifts. In
doing so, she raised $446, which she gladly gave to Save The Tiger
Fund.
"Emma has really become an animal person," says her mother, Leslie
Brennan." She was inspired by the Save The Tiger Fund website and
decided that tigers were her favorite big cat."
Party guests got to pet nearly 20 animals including a large snake and
a fox, courtesy of a Long Island firm that educates people about
wildlife and habitat conservation. They were also treated to a tiger
cake, animal-related crafts and a National Geographic special about
endangered animals. "Emma continues to be interested in rescuing
endangered animals, " her mother says. "She's just as enthusiastic as
ever."
Ideas for your tiger Birthday celebration - invitations and
costumes
Decorations
- Turn your house and yard into a jungle with
streamers, decorative tissue paper, or balloons in jungle
colors such as greens, beiges, and browns . Twist green and yellow
paper streamers into vines by twisting them together.
- Create animal "paw print" paths out of cardboard or
paper.
- Hang wild animal posters on the walls, place stuffed animals as
you can on the floor.
- You can make palm trees out of cardboard rolls covered in brown
paper or felt. Placed wire in the middle of each green paper or felt
leaf and stick them in a piece of foam on top of the tree.
Menu
Bake one round cake and two cupcakes. Arrange cupcakes as tiger ears
and the cake round as the face. Frost cakes with orange frosting and
