Orange and Black Placemats

You will need:

  • Orange and black construction paper
  • Scotch tape
  • Child proof scissors
  • A ruler
  • A pencil

Directions:

  • Using a ruler, measure every one inch on both the orange and black sheets of paper. Draw a vertical line every one inch for each sheet of paper
  • Cut both sheets of paper into 1” strips
  • Line up the orange strips so that they form a rectangle (it should look like the piece of paper before it was cut).  The strips should each be touching the ones next to it.
  • Tape the left edge of the lined up orange strips, so that they do not come apart
  • Using one black strip at a time, weave the strips in and out of the orange strips, forming a criss-cross pattern.  You should alternate which direction you start the black strips from (over or under the orange strips).
  • Once all of the strips have been woven, tape the remaining edges of the placemat so that  the black strips do not fall out.
