Deer Stalker

Deer

Objective:

The prey group tries to avoid being captured by the tiger.

Players:

6 or more players.

Rules:

Select one child to be the “tiger,” while all of the others will be the “deer.” This game is somewhat like tag.  Have the deer stand in different places, scattered throughout the yard.  They all close their eyes and count to 30.  The tiger hides.  When the deer are done counting, the game begins.  The tiger’s objective is to slowly stalk his/her prey by sneaking up on them.  If the tiger tags a deer, the deer is out of the game.  The deer must run around, trying to avoid the tiger.  However, since deer roam in groups, they must try to protect each other (acting as a group).  If at the end of 10 minutes, two or more “deer” are captured by the tiger, the deer team loses and the tiger wins.  But, if the deer team is successful in working as a group, and only 0-1 of them is captured, then that whole team wins. This game is great for teaching children team work and strategizing.
